Tony Clough….. who are you?

Following 30 years in West Yorkshire Fire Service working has an operational fireman and Casualty Care Instructor; I retired to create Tony Clough FIRST AID TRAINING Ltd.

I am passionate about first aid and the need for everyone to be able to access the knowledge and skills that saves lives. Utilising my qualifications and experience gained attending trauma scenes I can bring realism and fun to the corporate first aid classrooms.

I started with no clients, venue or even business knowhow – 30 years in the fire service does not give you any of these skills! First, I contacted friends and family and asked them to approach the Human Resources Managers at the places where they worked – I sometimes offered my services for free just to show them there was a different way to teach first aid.

It quickly struck me there is a need for good quality training; I was surprised at the impact my training had in comparison to other training providers. I’m no superman of the first aid training world but it was clear there was a need to explain what and how the things you do improves the chances of the casualties.

The training I provide has quickly been acknowledged by the HSE who have given me their approval through my sister company FACt (36/11). I now have accreditation through the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) and a member of Federation Of First Aid Training Organisations (FOFATA).

I provide the 1-day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Course; designed for companies with ‘Low Risk’ of accidents and injuries through their business process’ or small numbers of personnel employed. Also, I deliver the ‘Gold Standard’ 3-day First Aid at Work (FAW) Course; aimed at business with ‘High Risk’ of accident, illness or injuries through the dangerous processes involved or the high volume of staff they employ. Each course follows a strict HSE syllabus but I teach it in a unique way that builds on the abilities and then confidence of the first aider so they feel they could cope in any given situation they find themselves in.

I still get involved with medical emergencies; I am a ‘Community First Responder’. During my free time I support the Yorkshire Ambulance by attending casualties that have respiratory or cardiac problems. I have done this now for 8-years and I have attended many incidents in my local community and, although some incidents don’t go the way you hoped some have gone extremely well. I have received two ‘Royal Humane Societies Certificate of Resuscitation’ for my involvement in the successful resuscitation of patients having cardiac arrests; it is rare to get one but I am proud of getting two.
